Accolades

92 points, Wine Pilot
"This is a Shiraz Cabernet blend. I love the fruit texture and suggestion of sweetness with its trace of watermelon and cranberry with nice palate creaminess. The natural acidity sits in the background to add precision and life through the palate. This is a lovely current drinking wine, previously only available at the cellar door, so check out your local for it."

Tasting notes

Appearance: palest of pink hues; salmon; brilliant

Aroma: strawberry, raspberries and cream, pink carnations, rose petals; hint of fresh herbs, intense, powerful, seductive

Palate: wild raspberries, strawberry shortcake, red currants, rose water; juicy and delicious with a fine sappiness; great fresh palate with plush weight; bone dry with no sugar, it has plenty of fruit sweetness and is long and complex

Vintage

Cool wet winter with a very high rainfall followed by a warm to hot and dry summer. The vines grew quickly developing excellent canopies. Delayed bud burst which affected flowering and gave lower yields. Good tannin ripeness (physiological ripeness) with deep colours in red grapes. Whites and rosé had very complex aromatics and flavours with bright acidities. This was a cool vintage which allowed slow development of complex characters and beautiful acidities within the grapes.

Winemaking

Juice is captured by two methods: saignee (bleed off) of juice from the crusher as the red grapes are processed and also by whole bunch pressing of fruit grown just for this rosé. The juice was cool fermented with aromatic yeast, aged two months on lees, and bottled in June. A good volume was made this year as we sold out of the 2021 vintage before Christmas last year. Perfect by the glass or by the bottle, this is Duke's most widely found wine. It is designed to be easily accessible, juicy, and delicious, immediately drinking well on release and all year round.
