Single Vineyard Shiraz 2021
SATSUMA PLUM • RED ROSE PETALS • BLACK PEPPER
Our Single Vineyard range comes from estate fruit that makes beautifully accessible wines to drink now. A near-perfect vintage that allowed slow development of complex characters within the grapes; dry and relatively disease-free ripening conditions giving beautiful acidities; and ripe juicy fruit. Finely structured and juicy and peppery, this is a lovely example of cool-climate fruit wrapped in powdery tannins. 750ml.

Ripe and generous with opulent rich fruit. It certainly is a step up from the very good Single Vineyard Shiraz loaded with ripe juicy plummy fruit underpinned by a chalky tannin precision. The sweet fruit is given a little boost with the sprinkle of spices and dried herbs, while the French oak management is right on the money. The smooth and seamless palate is a joy.

Cool wet winter after two years of drought conditions with very high rainfall followed by a warm to hot and dry summer. The vines grew quickly developing excellent canopies. Delayed bud burst which affected flowering and gave lower yields. Good tannin ripeness (physiological ripeness) with deep colours in red grapes. This was a near perfect vintage which allowed slow development of complex characters within the grapes, dry relative disease-free ripening conditions giving beautiful acidities, ripe juicy fruit with fine complete tannin structures.
Harvest was done in early April by selective machine maximising whole berries and minimizing juicing to allow the fruit to arrive in pristine condition. The grapes were destemmed into a closed top fermenter, fermented for eighteen days with up to three pump overs per day to give gentle extraction. The wine was drained off with some pressings added back to build texture and length, with the resulting wine aged in one year and older French oak 300L hogsheads on lees for 12 months; blended and bottled the following August. 240 cases made.
