The Australian | Duke's Vineyard's Great Southern Dream, by James Halliday
We were honored to be featured James Halliday's guest column in The Australian.
"Ben is sensitive to the special place and much-loved Duke and Hilde in Porongurup, and is very much attuned to growing the brand by increasing quality, not quantity. Even as the brand continues to grow, the quality of Duke’s Vineyard’s wines have never faltered."
In the article, James Halliday shares his perspectives on three of our wines:
- 97 pts, Magpie Hill Reserve Shiraz 2021 [available to purchase]
- 95 pts, Invitational Frankland River Riesling 2022 [available to purchase]
- 95 pts, Single Vineyard Riesling 2022 [SOLD OUT]
The article also shares Ben's recent moves in the vineyard.
"Ben Cane has moved to organic vineyard management, with biodynamics around the corner. He has also changed pruning to cane, thus allowing greater sunlight and breeze penetration through the canopy. Three clones of each pinot noir and chardonnay will underwrite new plantings of these varieties. And so it goes on. Duke left big boots to fill, and I’m confident Ben will do just that."
