94 points, The Real Review
Very refined and restrained aromas of dried flowers and dried herbs, red rather than green apple, the palate tense and tangy with refreshing acidity and a crisply dry finish. Searing intensity of fruit and acid, seamlessly interwoven. It impresses already.
Halliday Top 5 Star Winery
Halliday defines top five-stars as 'Outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity'
Appearance: pale hay, green tinges
Aroma: green apple, honeydew melon, cucumber, guava
Palate: green apple, orange blossom, custard danish, mineral edge, rain on granite
Cool wet winter with a very high rainfall followed by a warm to hot and dry summer. The vines grew quickly developing excellent canopies. Delayed bud burst which affected flowering and gave lower yields. Whites and rosé had very complex aromatics and flavours with bright acidities. This was a cool vintage which allowed slow development of complex characters and beautiful acidities within the grapes.
Established in the early 1980s just south of Mt Barker, the Chatsfield Vineyard produces stunning wines from 40-year-old Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Shiraz vines, as well as from a younger block of Gingin clone Chardonnay.
